You are the cheerleader. You love to help others. You care deeply about the people around you. You go back and forth from wanting to help people and needing alone time to help you. You have both sides inside of you and it can be confusing. You go back and forth between having a great and productive day to chilling all day the next. You tend to feel lazy and yet strangely a really hard worker. You have a good worth ethic and a good rest ethic. You are not two people and you are not crazy. Your body type needs the blend of both. What we want to address is the ratio of both. If the need for rest takes over and days go by, you feel awful and frustrated. If you are productive for days on end, you will find yourself emotionally raw with more anger and agitation that you would prefer.

This is not because you are bad, it is because you have depleted your energy helping and there is nothing left for you. Unlike the endomorphs that deplete their energy helping others without realizing it, you know what is happening and you are getting more and more upset the lower the gas tank gets. You are aware that you need time for you and this is good. What your body type needs most is balance in all areas. You need a balanced approach to food where you are allowed times to indulge and times to be more focused. You need balance in your sleep, where you are getting enough but not too much. Think Little Red Riding Hood and the Three Bears. You need just right, not too much and not too little. Usually one side takes over and you will feel like you can’t control things.

You tend to struggle with the back and forth of depression and anxiety like symptoms. When you are resting too much the anxiety takes over. When you are working too hard, the lethargy and depressed feelings will emerge. This is the body’s way of trying to get you back into balance. You want to have both. This doesn’t mean equal parts. One day I will work and the next day I will watch TV all day. It means working on an approach to your day that will allow you to have the structure you need and the chill you need. 70/30 is a good ratio. This means you will have to plan ahead so that you can make sure that you have enough down time to refuel. Eating will also be different depending on the mode. If you are busy working hard, your metabolism kicks in much like an ectomorph and you will have less impact with what you eat. Conversely, if you eat high carb/high processed foods on a three day netflix binge, you will feel more like an endomorph and the body will expand.

Balance is your word.

  • You gain muscle easily and can train like an athlete.

  • You need balance with structure for your health goals.

  • You struggle with feeling depleted from helping others.

  • You struggle with feeling anxious on some days and more depressed symptoms on other days depending on your mode.

  • You go back and forth between wanting to be productive and needing a break to recharge. You move between “go mode” and “chill mode.”

  • You easily see results when you make consistent changes to your health habits.

  • You need a balanced approach to food, allowing for indulgences here and there.

  • You need to take the time to plan each week so that you can make sure you have the time and energy for all that you need to do.

  • You struggle with switching from “go mode” to “chill mode” quickly and can even get stuck there for long periods of time.

What you truly need to change.

You body type needs to have consistency in balance in every area of your life. When you take the time to properly plan out your weeks, there will be less surprises and you will have more choice in how you spend your time. You can easily move your routines around to meet your needs, but you need to keep the ratios in mind. It will be easy to get trapped into chill mode longer than your body needs, or go mode longer than your body has energy for. When you can plan out your weeks and your food, you will find that you still have flexibility and can keep up the pace with more ease. You tend to struggle with anger and frustration more because you KNOW that your resources are depleting and you feel resentment that the job, or person is draining you. Keeping balance will keep out of the red zone.

You need peaceful environments which is why you tend to need more alone time. It isn’t that you aren’t social, you are very much so, it is just that you can control the environment in your own home or room. You will want to make sure you have a self care morning and evening routine to help promote a peaceful way to start and end your days. This could be waking up early to make sure you have time so you aren’t rushed out the door, or taking a bath/shower every night to wash off the day. These kinds of routines are important. It isn’t when you take the shower, just that you take it every night after work. It could be 3pm, 9pm or 11pm. The consistency is in the routine, not the time of it.

You need a plan for healthy habits because you will do well when you are in go mode, and drop off the earth and your commitments when you are in chill/escape mode. Having the ability to choose foods but stay in a healthy budget of proteins/fats/carbs/veggies is helpful with indulgences here and there. You will not do well on restrictive diets with the same food at the same time. You will need to have structure that allows for some options with different types of schedules.

  • Structure and routines

  • Balanced ratio in the day of working and resting 70/30

  • A plan, if you know you have to get up early, you will want to go to bed earlier, if you are going to be getting up later, you can sleep in and not feel the consequences of changing routines as much as the other body types.

  • Sleep, if you do not sleep well, you will be very grumpy and not have the energy reserves to handle the workload that day. You won’t feel very social either.

  • Mindful practices that can help with both anxious thoughts and hopeless thoughts. Your body type struggles most when you get stuck into days or weeks of not doing anything or doing too much for too many people. Having self care practices on deck so that you won’t have to think of them.

  • Choice. You can easily move through different routines (i.e. alternating work schedule) if you know ahead of time and can prepare. This gives you choice. When you know one day will be really hard, you plan a day or chunk of time that you can rest. Knowing that this is on the calendar will help ease your mind and your ability to adjust to changing routines.

  • To train like an athlete. You can go the distance in workouts. So do it. It will help you get rid of the excess anxious thoughts and stress you have picked up in the day. Move your body and train. Your body has a natural ability to quickly build muscle and this will help improve every area of your life. Cardio is great in between weight training. You have the ideal body for getting results quickly with working out.

  • Moderate amounts of food. It likes balance so you can have a very balanced plate of carbs/protein/ veggies/fats. Remember your word is balance.

  • You find it easiest to add new muscle and you don’t tend to store much body fat.

 

 

If you are ready to make consistency a priority you will see results.

You will not be fighting your body, you will be fighting your mind.
